What to see in Madrid: Madrid Rio (Madrid River).

What to see in Madrid .- May be it is a long time you paid your last visit to Madrid. Now you can have a nice walk in the park set in Manzanares river bank, in the west part of Madrid, park that received the name of  Madrid Río

The area has improved and been modernized in the last years, showing a fresh face and evoking certain Parisian ”air” as other cities that take the most of its rivers.

Madrid Rio is a perfect area to walk, practise open air sports (running, cycling), while enjoying superb views of Royal Palace, Almudena’s Cathedral and Madrid Centre from a different perspective.

Madrid Río is next to Casa de Campo, a huge public park that originally was a hunting reserve for the Spanish monarchs. Nowadays, it hosts also Madrid Zoo and Parque de Atracciones (amusement park)

How to get to Madrid Rio.

From Royal Palace it is very easy to get Madrid Rio. From Plaza de Oriente, through Bailén St. towards Plaza de España, and then by Cuesta de San Vicente to Glorieta de San Vicente.

While walking Cuesta de San Vicente, at the left side is Campo del Moro (Royal Palace complex), one of the most beautiful and spectacular Madrid gardens.

Once at Glorieta de San Vicente, Manzanares river can already be seen. Descending by the small tree forest, enjoy the right promenade several kilometers. Along the walk, at the left side we will enjoy Madrid Centre views, and at our right side, Casa del Campo views.

Keeping walking about 20 minutes we will get Vicente Calderon Football Stadium. You will share the walk with many people walking and practicing sport.

Children have also attractions, and adults can have a drink/snack sat on a terrace in a cafeteria o or a bar in the bank of Manzanares river. Then take the way back admiring the views again.
